Friday Ideas
December 28th, 2012A pop of color on existing simple furniture can make all the difference. At my hotel room in SF at The Clift, I love this orange glass top on the creamy table. Was thinking I could get a brightly colored piece of plexi custom cut and installed on some tables in my home.
In Chinatown, this little stack of simply wrapped up plates caught my eye. There is something so easy about this idea and it also does its job to protect each and every little plate.
Early morning in the Hollywood Hills… from my room at The Sunset Tower Hotel. I’m in LA all the time but really could not see myself living here.
Some of our new Danny Seo handcarved wooden birds with metal stands spied at the TJ Maxx store in Culver City, CA. Spring merchandise is already hitting stores!
West Coast Adventures
December 27th, 2012Before the Christmas holiday, I was in Los Angeles and San Francisco on a whirlwind of work. Here are some snapshots of where I was, who I met and some things I’ve seen!
Love the oversized Japanese style lights inside of Gump’s department store in San Francisco.
Since Santa didn’t bring me these organic “etched” cocktail glasses for Christmas, looks like I’ll have to pick them up myself next time I’m in SF.
Interesting juxtaposition of graffiti and refined style at Restoration Hardware in Beverly Hills. Plopped myself on the sofa a few minutes before the Stella McCartney holiday party.
In front of the Ford CMAX hybrid car at the Stella McCartney holiday party. My friends at Ford graciously sponsored the party with proceeds benefiting the Hammer Museum. I just got one of these cars and LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Thanks to my pals Jenna Elfman, Holly Robinson Peete and Angela Lindvall for coming!
Speaking of Holly!! She’s wearing vintage Stella too.
And at Anthropologie, saw this upcycled collage/painting/art installation using broken china and pottery pieces and paint to make this portrait. Very Anthro, right?
Gingerbread Art
December 26th, 2012Hope your holiday break is going beautifully. I was at The Parker Meridien Hotel recently for a business breakfast at the amazing Norma’s restaurant (had the James Beard award-winning potato pancakes) and saw they had an exhibition of really fun over-the-top gingerbread “houses” on display.
Like this guy “under construction.”
“Chilly” Abe.
A fun Asian temple
A sphinx…. how appropriate to use graham crackers as sand!
And found one of my Danny Seo driftwood angels for sale at the Marshalls store in Chelsea. If it’s still there, I am sure it’s been discounted a bit more! Worth checking out….
Merry Christmas
December 24th, 2012To everyone who reads this: I hope you have a wonderful, joyful and loving Christmas holiday.
Here’s my upcycled holiday tree from my book Upcycling Celebrations featuring ornaments made from upcycled plastic shopping bags and old bubble wrap to wrap the base of the tree.
I’ll be back December 27th with a new post. See ya then!
