Repurposed Clocks

clocks

At 4AM at Philadelphia International Airport, this is the last thing I’d expect to find, but I’m glad I did.    In between Terminal D and C/B, there’s a little walkway that has an exhibit of handmade, repurposed “clocks” made out of everyday objects.

Every idea in the cases is so clever and so fun, that I thought I’d snap some photos and share them with you.    I love how you can take a simple $5 clock kit (at Michael’s craft store) and make anything into a clock.

Above, are the famous Cafe Du Monde coffee tins made into “flighty” clocks.

A Kikkoman soy sauce container made into a temple clock of sorts…

A globe with lots of hour and minute hands…. telling you time anywhere in the world!   Kinda funny…. makes me want to dig out an old globe and turn it into a desktop clock.   Okay, now I have to do that…

Not a clock, but oh-so clever.   Two colanders fused together and made into a starlight, futuristic/retro-looking light fixture.   This could actually be something very easy to re-create.

Probably my favorite one since it’s always tea time somewhere!   A biscuit tin repurposed into a quirky wall clock.   Really, how fun is this?

The tin in the last picture is no biscuit tin… it is a tea caddy.. a tea tin from England, more than likely. I have got a similar one right here on the desk. Does no longer have tea in it but small change, LOL.

I like the little clocks with wings, want to make one with Time Flies printed on the front.
The colander light probably makes great patterns on the wall at night when the other lights in the room turned down.
    Thanks for sharing these pictures!

As a mixed-media/altered art artist, I love these!

There’s a local Italian restaurant that uses colanders and metal cheese graters as lighting fixtures over their tables. It looks really cool.

On the wall they have ‘Pisa’, shaped from flat metal pieces, with various kitchen implements attached (pizza cutters, lemon squeezers, slotted spoons, etc).

    Thanks for sharing these. Fun!
