Reader Submitted: Shower Cap Idea

shower-cap

I get lots of emails and twitter comments and reader comments right here on Daily Danny all the time.  So, I thought it would be fun to start sharing ideas that come my way that make me stop and think, “that’s a great idea!”

Ruth, from  Willimantic, CT wrote me recently after reading my daily newspaper column “Do Just One Thing” that runs in newspapers across the country.   She wrote:
Whenever I travel, I always snag the shower caps.  I bring them home and use them to cover food before I refrigerate it, place over my bowl when I make bread dough (during the rising process) and to carry with me when I take food to an event where I want to cover the goods.  They can be washed gently and used a few times before they are usable anymore.
I like your thinking Ruth.   Many hotels throw away ALL the toiletries in a hotel room after a guest departs just to make sure all the products are clean and sanitary for the next guest.   So, if you don’t use your shower cap, take it and reuse it at home to cover food and bowls.   Here’s a pic to show you the idea:

So simple and so great.   Thank you Ruth!

Extraordinary! I do have much of them and could not throw them away… this is a really useful way to reuse them.

You would not believe how long those shower caps last. I used one several times a week in the shower for over a year before I had to throw it out. Great idea to use it on a bowl as a cover. How sinful that the hotels throw that stuff away-lets all remember to take everything and donate what we cannot use!

Another idea: snag ALL the toiletry items and donate them to your local homeless shelter! Lots of those folks arrive with absolutely nothing, especially the chronically mentally ill guys out there.
