Great tutorial! I have another version of these firestarters, from when I heated a 3000 sf, 100 yr old farmhouse entirely with wood:
Materials:
dryer lint
cardboard egg carton (these are almost always made from recycled paper)
candle stubs (soy of course, although parrafin works too, if that’s what you’ve got…)
Year round:
- Each time you clean out the lint trap, place the lint in the cups of the egg carton.
- Save your candle stubs in an old metal coffee can, or other large can.
When you have quite a bit saved, melt down the candle stubs by putting a few inches of water in a pan, placing the can in the water, and heating on low heat. Pour the liquid wax into the lint-filled egg carton. When the wax hardens, tear the carton apart into 12 individual firestarters.
Works like a charm, and made from 100% recycled materials!
