Weekend Thinking

Bows

I'm sitting here in my craft room looking at this table full of Christmas bows.   These are Martha Stewart K-Mart holiday bows (the kind you peel and stick) that my local K-Mart store was giving away.   They had huge boxes of them with a sign reading 90% off.    So I bought 10 large bags and paid $4 thinking there could be some project you could do with these.

Any thoughts?

Feeding Birds

So, as I'm sitting here thinking… I just realized a flock of birds showed up to feed on some bird seed I put outside.    It's kinda peaceful and fun to see them…. when suddenly…

Feeding Birds 2

It's the attack of the bird seed eating squirrel.  Every day, he crawls up the window right in front of me and dine away….   So cute, but so ferocious!

Okay, back to the bows.   I don't normally stock up on "stuff" is see marked down to nothing for the sake of just buying it… but I felt compelled today…

This post made me smile. It’d be so fun to go shopping with you–and cute little visitors! No fab ideas for the bows, but I’d be tempted to snip or shred those big loops open and see what could be made. Nests for spring? I look forward to seeing your creations.

The one thing I thought of with the bows is to glue some of them to a paper lantern for a festive party light. Maybe doing just the gold or silver would be pretty, or make a bow wreath for the holidays.
I love the pics of the birds and the squirrel! I wish we had snow here in Louisiana!

I have young kids and I know that they go NUTS with bows. I would suggest calling your local preschool and see if you can donate them. Even better would be to take old wrapping paper and boxes if you have them and become Mr. present station. Stay for an hour and help the kids “wrap presents.” Really, it will make your top tem favorite days list. You may be amazed at how much recycling goes on in a preschool!

What if you hot-glued them on both sides of various lengths of ribbon and hung them from a chandelier at Christmas time? I can picture long and short ribbons packed from top to bottom with bright metallic bows hanging over a Christmas dinner table. Just a thought… :)

how about sticking them on some sort of wire (old hangers?) or plastic stem and making flowers? they could be easily painted to match any decor.

You could cover a grapevine wreath with them and make a nice weath for the holidays?

1)Glue them to heart-shaped Styrofoam forms for Valentine’s Day. 2)Drop them randomly in a large brandy snifter. 3)Glue to place cards at your next sit-down fun dinner. 3)Attach to the end of a 1″x6″ piece of heavy stock to use as book markers. Etc, etc. or as F. Scott Fitgerald use to write, “Ect,ect….”

like the first commenter, i thought of a light as well…it would be tough though to make it look like something other than a bow-covered light. what about massing them on some sort of surface to create a lot of texture and where they wouldn’t necessarily look like bows? they would probably function pretty well as sound dampeners. or you could hang *light* stuff from them…maybe on a ceiling in an unexpected place?

I reuse my bows for years on end, often adding to them by rescuing them from family gatherings where they would otherwise end up in the garbage(my in-laws do not recycle). This year I realized that my collection was out of control and used them in my decorating too. My favorite was to use three bows of graduating sizes to make flowers. I just snip the loops open, leaving the center loop on the smallest one closed. Then I layer them to create wonderful peony-like flowers. I used them on my banister and made a mobile of sorts by sandwiching thread between two of them and hanging them in a group from my dining room ceiling. And next year, I can use them as is, or use them on presents too!
