Behind the Scenes at ShopNBC

August 9th, 2010

This weekend, I was in Minneapolis to help spread the joy and love of our USDA-certified organic bath and beauty line, Wholearth Beauty and Bath.     Thank you everyone who called in to say how much they loved the collection and I hope everyone who picked up the phone or went online at shopnbc.com to try the line loves it as much as I do.

If you missed the showings, you can always go to shopnbctv.com and search “Wholearth” to watch the shows on video as well.

I thought it would be fun to take you on a behind the scenes tour of what it takes to go on-air at ShopNBC.   Above is the studio where we presented Wholearth.   Just minutes before I show was to go on-air, they were presenting a beautiful jewelry show, which meant I would have minutes to get my act together!

All of our products are beautifully layed out by the show’s stylist on these rolling carts.   There are three sets of everything: one set for the table to do camera shots, one set for me to use and one set for the host to use.    If there was just one set total, we’d all be fighting to get our hands on it, so this is a nice way of keeping calm on the set!

The Wholearth USDA certified body wash is the only organic body wash on the market today and is totally sulfate-free.   Almost every body wash on the market today has the SLS chemical in it, a synthetic chemical that creates “foam” when activated with water.    I believe many people are looking for SLS-free washes and we found one that richly lathers using just coconut oil instead of SLS.    I needed a bowl of water to demonstrate that on-air, and here are my choices for this weekend’s airings!

Our model Winston Hewett backstage working away.   Not only is she our model to help demonstrate products on-air, but she’s one helluva an entrepreneur!   I loved spending down time with her backstage sharing stories about our jobs in “the industry.”

My “cheat” sheets.  Sometimes I need some reminders of all the individual ingredients and notes in each product.  Here’s my blue card for Wholearth #4 fine fragrance.

There are four camers and monitors in front when you go on-air.    I also wear an earpiece where the producer of the show can talk to me as well.  It can be overwhelming!    When a caller calls in, I hear them talking to me through the ear piece and then I talk back to them either through my camera (on the left) or in the middle when the host and I are both talking.   If you watch my shows at shopnbctv.com, you can see it took me a while to figure this all out.

We’ll be back soon at ShopNBC not only with new Wholearth shows, but with new exciting products.    The solid perfumes….I…can…not…wait.

Wholearth Beauty Returns to ShopNBC

August 6th, 2010

I’m hopping on a plane right now for Minneapolis to spend the weekend at ShopNBC for our return visit for my Wholearth Beauty and Bath line.   I’ll be on-air all weekend long, so please tune in or call in if you’ve tried the products and love them!

Our Wholearth Beauty and Bath shows are:

Saturday, August 7th:   2PM and 8PM (EST).

Sunday, August 8th: 10AM and 5PM (EST).

On our last visit, we debuted many new Wholearth products including the “Do Just One Thing” Starter kit that features my favorite everyday products:  Our USDA certified organic body wash, our USDA certified organic body lotion, our 2-in-1 body/room mist with USDA certified organic fragrance and one of the best reusable tote bags made out of heavy-duty unbleached canvas that rolls up for easy carrying.

It’s available in two scents:  Eco-Chic and Grateful Planet.   The Eco-Chic scent—a creamy lavender—sold out first and Grateful Planet–a creamy citrus scent—sold out next.  The good news is we’ve restocked both scents and pretty much doubled the Eco Chic supply this time around.   If you haven’t experienced using certified organic bath products, this is the time to try.    A body wash that foams up to a rich lather all without harmful sulfates?   We’ve got the very first organic body wash to ever come to market and I think you will love it.

Here’s a video explaining the starter kit:

Wholearth Beauty also features a collection of the first-ever USDA certified organic fine fragrance collection.    These perfumes are incredbly popular and limited because we manufacture our scents unlike any other company: there is zero artificial fragrance in our line.

Instead, we turn to the way perfume was made before the advent of artificial scents, tapping into the rich history Parisian perfume houses made fragrance more than 100 years ago.    That means, our notes of vetiver, lavender, citrus and other sweet, delicious notes are actually from real flower, fruit and spices.      Wholearth #4—warm and creamy with notes of bergamot, coriander and orange—sold out first on our debut.  It’s back in stock on ShopNBC.com right now and features a 5-star review including this comment:

This is a wonderful light patchouli scent, just enough so you smell good but not so strong that its obvious you’re wearing a perfume. Love the bottle! Makes a really great smelling, pretty gift.

We’re also bringing back Wholearth #7, which was also a scent that sold out and also features a 5-star review on shopnbc.com.   This scent is what everyone who tries it thinks of it as an organic “Angel” perfume.   It has a stronger vanilla/lavender note to it and it intermingles with citrus, basil and mandarin.   So yum.

Here’s a review of Wholearth #7:

This is a fantastic fragrance! I can’t wait until this brand comes back to shopnbc. The fragrance drys down to a wonderful sweet vanilla scent. I am highly allergic to most perfumes. This scent is amazing and long lasting. I absolutely adore it. I am waiting for scent number 4 to come back in stock so I can try that too! P.S. I have bought and returned approximately 5 perfumes this past year. This is a keeper!
We’re also debut Wholearth #10 perfume on this return visit, which is a scent that I particularly love because it reminds of a fresh, clean, soapy scent.    Again, because all of these scents are USDA certified organic, it’s free of all the harsh chemicals normally found in perfumes and I find doesn’t leave you feeling sick or nauseous the way artificial fragrances usually make people feel.

The Wholearth Body Souffle—also available in our certified organic scents of EcoChic and Grateful Planet—is what I call dessert for the skin.   It’s rich, emollient and your skin just drinks it up.    I’m very proud of the fact you get a significant amount of souffle with this product, all packaged in 100% post-consumer recycled packaging of course.    We have a very special price at ShopNBC for the Wholearth Souffle, which might explain why this is the third most popular item in our collection.    This one also features a 5-star review across the board and includes comments like this one:
So soft and smooth on the skin with just a hint of the scent. Just wonderful!

Be sure to tune in this weekend!      Saturday, August 7th at 2PM and 8PM (EST) and Sunday, August 8th at 10AM and 5PM (EST).    And call in if you’re a Wholearth fan: 1.800.884.2212.

Win! Wholearth Perfume #7

July 16th, 2010

c37025

Since our big debut on ShopNBC recently with my Wholearth Beauty and Bath line, it’s been so great to read all of the 5-star reviews at shopnbc.com for our products.   Notably, it’s our Wholearth perfume #7 that’s getting the most attention and it’s easy to see why: it just smells incredible.

I’d like to give you an opportunity to experience Wholearth perfume (the first USDA certified organic fine frangrance to debut in the United States) by giving one lucky Daily Danny reader a free bottle ($65 value) of Wholearth Perfume #7.

To win, I need a little help:   I’m working on my latest book right now called Upcycling.  Please go through your junk drawer/ desk / purse or anywhere you stash stuff and tell me something unique that you’ve been saving (for whatever reason) that you’d like some creative ideas on reusing or upcycling.

For example, yesterday’s Daily Danny post had me upcycling laminate countertop sample chips into a mosaic tray.      If you also had these chips, the only comment you need to leave is “I have laminate countertop sample chips I’d love to upcycle” or something like that.

You get it….  so comment away for a chance to win!

I’ll use a random number generator to pick the winner.  Good luck !

CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED.  THANKS FOR THE COMMENTS!

LED Light Hallway

July 6th, 2010

Back in March 2009, as the renovations on my new home were completing and I was working on some final details, I was excited to discover LED light bulbs for sale at ABC Carpet and Home in New York City.

We were all just getting used to LED holiday string lights as a great, eco alternative to traditional lights and here we got to see these super-efficient, super-modern bulbs come to the market.

In my house today, I love to look in the foyer at these lights; still very futuristic and beautiful to me.   The individual diodes almost make each bulb look like an updated Edison bulb!

Still on vacation enjoying the warm weather!  Hope your Fourth of July holiday was incredible!

I have these exposed lights in the foyer of my home that I installed a few days after I bought the house. They are security lights I found at Lowe’s and loved two things about them: the raw, real metal industrial look of them and the low, low price for each light. Value and clean, honest design? I’m sold.

But one problem I’ve had with them is that having a row of exposed lights can be super super bright and turn the foyer into a bright walkway in the house. So, for months, the foyer went unlit.

LED bulbs to the rescue! A few weeks ago, we did a photo shoot here at the house for my new Wholearth Beauty and Bath line coming out on Earth Day. In one of the shots, we created a grid using super energy efficient LED light bulbs, which cast a softer light and are—just plain and simple—cool. So, when I walk through the hallway now, I can have accent lighting and see the individual diodes glowing from each bulb. It feels modern, it’s eco and I love the fact I probably will never have to replace the bulbs for a good 20 years. Crazy! When I’m 50, I’ll need to replace them!

Wholearth Beauty & Bath Debut on ShopNBC

June 27th, 2010

dswegroupshotonwood-0006

I’m very happy to announce that my all-natural and USDA Certified Organic bath and beauty line WHOLEARTH will be debuting on ShopNBC on Wednesday, June 30th.    Our hour-long shows will be 7AM and 7PM (EST) that day and will feature worldwide product launches for the line.     I’ll be on the show to explain how the products work, the benefits of using Wholearth and to also explain the importance in choosing all-natural and organic products that you use on your skin everyday.

c37024

We have a lot of great groupings of Wholearth products to help introduce the line to customers at unbeatable prices.    One of the sets we’re offering is a 4-piece Wholearth set featuring full size bottles of our certified organic body wash, body lotion, body/linen mist and a designer reusable tote bag.

The body wash is the first-ever certified organic wash to come to market, completely free of harsh sulfates and uses organic coconut oil to create a rich lather that doesn’t strip and overdry the skin.   It also features apple juice with natural hydroxy acids to soften the skin and sunflower, sesame, almond and jojoba oil to moisturize, soothe and condition the skin.    This body wash is fantastic!

The lotion isn’t thick and greasy, but more like a serum that absorbs and nourishes the skin; I call it “nutrition for your skin.”     The lavender extract is the hero ingredient in this since it both nourishes and regenerates the skin.    For me, I love the Grateful Planet scented body lotion because it’s citrusy and energizing;  the Eco-Chic is our creamy lavender scent and I love that night because it calms and soothes.

Is there anything bamboo can’t do?

Our Bamboo Body Scrub will be a worldwide launch on ShopNBC.   It’s a unique mixture of bamboo stem extract, walnut shell powder, lemongrass, ylang ylang oil and rose geranium oil.

It feels soft as a spongy pillow when you touch it, but when you use it in the shower or bath and add a little water, it activates into an amazing exfoliating scrub that naturally foams.     Exfoliation is so important because removing dead skin cells reveals fresher, newer skin that helps your everyday beauty products work better.

dsweperfumeabove-0005

Two of our USDA certified organic fragrances will also have debuts on the show:  Wholearth #4 and Wholearth #7.

These are the first-ever certified organic fine fragrances to come to market.  What does that mean to you?   Instead of artificial fragrances, dyes and chemicals to make perfume, we looked at the way real perfume was made more than 100 years ago in the finest perfume houses in Paris before artificial fragrances were ever invented.    Here, we use absolutely the real deal to handcraft some of the best-smelling perfumes you’ll ever experience.   Like a fragrant rose garden, fields of lavender or fresh cut citrus, our fragrances use these real ingredients so the vanilla you smell in our perfume was actually distilled from real vanilla beans instead of synthetic notes.

#4: Top Notes: Warm and Creamy notes of Bergamot, Coriander and Orange.    Mid Notes: Rosewood and Lavender intermingled for freshness.   Dry Notes: Real Vanilla and Patchouli for a feel good all over scent.

#7: Top Notes: Bold, warm notes of Anise, Bergamot, Basil and Mandarin Orange.   Mid Notes: Citrus intermingled with Lavender and Sage.    Dry Notes: Powdery with Sandalwood, Vanilla and Vetiver.

We’ll also be launching our Wholearth Body Souffle on the show in your choice of two certified organic fragrances.

Tune in to ShopNBC on June 30th at 7Am and 7PM(EST) or watch online at shopnbctv.com.    So excited and hope you’ll join me for this worldwide launch!
