40th Anniversary of the Lunar Landing Party

I received an invitation from luxury maker Louis Vuitton to attend a party at the Museum of Natural History in NYC to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the first lunar landing. In attendance were astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Jim Lovell (pictured above in the Louis Vuitton advertisement with Sally Ride), who gave a funny and moving speech about their time in space and this momentous occasion.

The luxury goods company went all out with the decor and atmosphere…and did not disappoint. I loved this use of allium flowers above the bar area, which has a futuristic, space-like feel. It’s funny how such a traditional flower (related to the onion family, if you can believe it) which is normally used in very iconic country gardens can take on a totally different feel if displayed sparingly.

Here’s my friend and colleague Claudine Gumbel, who accompanied me to the event. Claudine owns Think PR, a public relations agency in New York City who handles the PR for my Wholearth Beauty & Bath line. I’ve been working with her since the year 2000 and her agency has done a great job handling my personal and corporate PR and event planning.

And a pic of me… the jacket is a Valentino coat I found at Decades Two in Los Angeles the week prior. Decades is a great store in Los Angeles that re-sells lightly worn designer clothes—many worn by celebrities to red carpet events. I’m always amazed at the deals I can get at Decades. If you’re ever in Los Angeles, it’s totally worth a visit to see what’s in the store. Don’t pay full retail, ever!

At the museum, there’s a scale that shows you what you would weigh on a Red Giant Star. I’m about 1/2 a pound. !

And the amazing ceiling at the museum: it’s like a moody planetarium. Could not be a better atmosphere for a party.
Many thanks to Louis Vuitton for the invite and congratulations to Buzz Aldrin, Sally Ride and Jim Lovell on your 40th Anniversary. Kudos!

Wow! What an awesome way to celebrate the Moon Landing!
Today is a special celebration for me as well: I was born on that precise moment, when the whole world (minus my mom, the doctor and a couple of nurses) was glued to the TV watching Neil A. taking that first step on the moon.
I love all the pics! And you beat me to blogging about that awesome ad! I may just do it anyway.
That Claudine is a fox.
