Help me Choose a Logo

logo1

As my company is growing and our offerings of TV programs, books, merchandise and other informative properties grows, I find myself—as organically as possible!—-pulling all these professional bits and pieces together into one, uniform media company.

One thing I haven’t had my entire life is an actual logo.  We do own various trademarks, phrases and brands, but I’ve never actually cohesively designed one uniform logo to go across all our branded products and platforms.    So, I recently buckled down to come up with a logo for the “Danny Seo” brand (sounds funny saying that!) and thought I’d get some feedback from you.   These are tentative and early renderings, but close enough that I think it’s time to share ‘em with you.

Let me know your favorite pick and I’ll randomly pick a commenter to win a set of my signed books.  Here we go!

You can also comment that maybe you like a certain leaf better mixed with a different font.  Or you can say none of the above.

Thanks so much for your help!  It’s been an exciting year so far and next year is going to get even busier!

    #3, love the movement.

I prefer #5, followed closely by #2. I think #5 is clean, simple, and spare, which I love. However, #2 might work better for your brand, as it’s slightly more rustic feeling and accessible.

    #4 all the way!

  4. Nancy says:

I like leaf #4 – prefer the smooth edges to the toothed ones and the upright position as opposed to the ‘lying down’ leaf #5. But I think it would look better with a smaller font that doesn’t fill in the entire leaf. The lettering from #2 would be good in #4.

To break it down for me, leaf 1, 2 and 3 are barbed, not a good label, sends the message of hard to grasp or angry, it’s rustic and indirect. Leaf one is good on the side, it flows and is good for a small label. Leaf 2 would be good for a wine bottle label standing straight up. Leaf 4 is angling upward which is hopeful, leaf 5 is grounded and shows staying power, but could be too heavy, and the tip points down. For the name it depends on what you want to emphasize, first or last name. The font should be clean and direct, easy to read at a glance, the more modern font with no added emphasis on ground and height, so I would go with font 4 or 5.

Hmmm, honestly, I don’t love any of them. I think the font for “Danny” from #4 and #5 are kinda nice, clean and modern looking. But I’m unclear about the need to empasize “Seo”. The green leaf in general reminds me of something that would be on a food related label sort of like the PureVia or Truvia logos. Maybe just an outline of a leaf with your name(brand) inside. I do think it’s pretty cool that you are “branding yourself”, best wishes for lots more continued success!

  7. Jeffrey says:

    None of the above.

Did you try anything simpler, something that focuses on your name with perhaps a smaller leaf as an accent? The leaf image is overly dominant and reserving type out of an entire image seems too amateurish for someone with as sophisticated an operation as you.

At minimum, I’d reduce the leaf in size and try having behind only part of your name, primarily your last name, a single letter, etc.

Sorry, I agree – none of them. Think about all of the well known companies, they do not have “logos” they have wordmarks. Get a nice (simple, clean, elegant) font and use the leaf as an accent, you will be much better off in the long run.

You need to think about all the different places this will appear. If you use this somewhere which requires a small logo your name will not be readable, the leaf is too dominant.

The best font treatment is #5.

(Next time you are in the city I would love for you to come down to our studio and have a chat about your logo if you are interested in other options, my email is included in the post).

    #5!!

  10. JP says:

#2, perhaps with a bigger/thicker font for name.

  11. erin says:

    #2 font with #2 leaf.

  12. Candidate #5 looks the best one.

  13. nance m says:

I liked # 4 — not sure why but my eye kept going back to it.

  14. Gloria says:

I think #4 would be best choice!

  15. Annie says:

I like #2 or #5…but I do think it could be better. I don’t like the chunky font…

Something like this could be nice too, with the thin font on either side of a leaf shape:

  16. Jiyeon says:

    I like #5 ^^

  17. Michael says:

Number four is the best design. It flows well and has a visual WOW factor. The others hurt my eyes..

  18. maggie says:

    # 5 is my pick for Danny.

  19. jess says:

    # 5 is my favorite!!

Thanks for the chance with your books!!! ~Jess

#5. it’s clean. i think clean is all that matters.

Trust me on this Danny…ditch nos. 4 and 5. The outline looks more like a water droplet than a leaf and all I can think of is that commercial about some pharmaceutical product for bladder control. Of the remaining I prefer #3 BUT….I have to say, I think I’d like to see your name in cursive. Not something with a lot of flourishes that is nearly impossible to read but something very simple. Perhaps a fancy dancy D and S would be good. I just think it adds a touch of class.
