Final House Tour..for Now

There’s been a lot of interest lately in doing a story about my new home for a few magazines. And with the flux of magazines folding and ad pages dwindling, many of them are now asking for exclusives I haven’t had to deal with in the past. One of those requests includes “not blogging about the house” on my own personal blog or on any other site on the Web. So, in a semi-final farewell, this will be the last blog post directly related to the renovations and decorating of this house. Thanksfully, I still have the country cottage on the river we can use and I’ll eventually come back to this house when the shoot is over and published.

One of my favorite spots in this house is in the living room. It’s two club chairs I found at JCPenney and placed them by the window. I love that the view outside are two additional Adirondack chairs, surrounded by neatly stacked firewood. One says cozy winter seating arrangement. The other says cozy summer arrangement.

I’m a big believer in “curating” collections at home. I have this large tray I bought in Tribeca in NYC many years ago that has been in many photo shoots and used for a myriad of things. Today, it’s holding a collection of interesting objects I’ve found all over the world: a tin box from South Korea, jade vases from Taiwan, metal eggs with chimes inside from a tea shop in Los Angeles, even junk store pieces that are chipped and tarnished. Somehow, even the stack of Uno cards work.

This collection of pewter plates was found at the Renninger’s Extravaganza in Kutztown, PA about 2 years ago. They were still sealed in the original vacuum-sealed bags when I bought them. I loved the geometric shape of the plates and loved how if you twist them a certain way, they take a different shape on the wall. It’s a bit dramatic in the hallway, but I think it works.

Even the simply stacked bookshelves in the master bedroom are kinda fun. The trophies on top are dog show tropies I found in a junk store in Pennsylvania, too. Peculiar, right?

Danny,
Is there ANY way you can give one last pic of that chunky wooden mirror/frame and wooden table in the hallway near the pewter plates? I love them!
I love it all–the chairs, the plates on the wall, Uno, and those trophies!! Yes, please!

LOVE the drama of the pewter plates in the hall. Great wall color too. My kinda style!
I’m gonna miss these posts…
