Cake Stand Reuse

Okay, get used to seeing this cake stand.

There was a small arts and crafts festival down the street from my house last weekend, so I decided to stop by and see what was there.     There was a small white elephant sale—sorta like a lone flea market booth—mixed with booths of local artisans selling everything from homemade honey to glazed bowls to intricate oil paintings.

In the white elephant booth, I found this cake stand.  It was $5, so I figured, why not.

But here’s the thing: I don’t bake cakes.    But I’m intrigued by the shape and idea of these cake stands.  We all have them (or can find them) so what else could you use it for?

I’ll start with the easiest: fruit bowl.    I picked up a basket of peaches from my local farm stand.  Just stack, display and eat!   More ideas in the coming weeks….

I never thought I’d use mine when I received it as a wedding gift. I don’t bake. But it turns out, I use it all the time! But maybe I shouldn’t disclose what I use it for here. I don’t want to spoil any of your surprises! We’ll just compare notes at the end. :)

Hey Danny! I’m a new fan, and I’m just starting to read your blog. Do you happen to read Real Simple magazine? They just did a feature on reusing random housewares, and a cake stand was one of the dishes! They recommend showing off candles of different heights, if I’m not mistaken. Great job!

I love to stack cake stands of different sizes and fill them will chapel candles. It is a great centerpiece for a dinner party and actually something i keep on the entry table year round. Light them…don’t light them…it still looks great!

You know what’s funny? I don’t have a cake stand, so the last time I made a cake for my daughter’s birthday, I turned my fruit bowl upside down, and put a plate on it to make my cake stand. I guess the universe was short one fruit bowl and voila, you’ve created it!
