Upcycling Bottles & Containers

I was inspired by these vintage ceramic bottles on a recent sale on OneKingsLane and thought it might be fun to take some Sculpey bakeable clay and some recyclables and see what I could do with them instead of just tossing them into the recycling bin.

Tools I needed:  Some containers (a wine bottle and an empty candle container), white matte spray paint, Sculpey white bakeable clay (but any color will do since you’ll paint it anyway), a carving tool (optional) and not pictured are rubber stamps.

Rolled the clay into a ball and then flattened it very firmly onto the bottle.  Then using some rubber stamps, I stamped out 2013 on it as  New Year’s Eve candle holder.

Ditto for the candle container, but spelled out LIGHT instead.   Figure I could toss in a tea light and it could be a nice glowing candle holder still.

Baked in the oven at 275 degrees for 15 minutes.  Allowed to cool and painted 2 coats of matte creamy spray paint on top.  Voila.   Ready for a taper candle, some flowers or a tealight and we’re good to go.
